NATALIE LOTRIET - ARTIST

Hi, I’m Natalie, the artist behind Canvas by Design.

I’ve spent most of my life in Perth after my family emigrated from the United Kingdom when I was a child. Art has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. From the moment I could hold a crayon, I was constantly drawing and painting—sometimes driving my family a little crazy with the never-ending sound of pencils scratching across paper.

I always dreamed of pursuing art as a career, but for a long time I believed that painting all day and actually being paid for it wasn’t realistic. After finishing school, I began studying at Curtin University, working towards a Bachelor of Design. However, after a few years I found myself feeling limited creatively by working mostly on a computer, so I decided to step away and travel the world to broaden my horizons and find inspiration.

Years later, I finally chose to follow that dream of painting full time - and my only regret is not doing it sooner. I’ve always wanted my art to have meaning and to bring joy to others. Being able to capture the magic of a couple’s wedding day or create a meaningful portrait of a beloved person or pet is incredibly special to me, and it’s the reason I love what I do.
